Pro Tools - Installation

This tutorial will walk you through installing and activating your Pro Tools software.

Before you begin, please locate your iLok and Activation Code. You will need these to continue:

This can be found in your Project LaunchBox materials. 

ACTIVATION CODE

Check your student email for a message containing your Pro Tools Activation Code.

Step 1. Click on the following link to access the Avid website: www.avid.com/activation.

If you previously created an Avid account, sign in. Otherwise, enter your information (use your Full Sail email address for consistency) then select "Create an account."

Step 2. Next, you must complete your profile. Click Update to verify your billing address.

Step 3. Enter your Pro Tools Activation Code (found in your student email) into the text field and click the “Activate Product" button.

Step 4. You will need an iLok account to proceed. If you have used an iLok before, enter your iLok User ID, otherwise Create a new iLok User ID.

Step 5. To create a new iLok account, simply enter your Avid.com password and Create a new iLok User ID.

Step 6. On the next screen, select "Avid / Reseller not listed."

Step 7. From your Products and Subscriptions page, click the Activate Subscription button.activate_subscription.png

You will see the Academic Eligibility screen pictured below. Please enter all necessary information, select 'Florida' for the State field, and search for 'Full Sail University' in the School field.

Step 8. You will now be taken back to your Products and Subscriptions page. Click the Show button to reveal Product Details and Download Links, as shown below:

Step 9. Download the latest version of Pro Tools as shown below:

Step 10. Check your Downloads and open the Pro Tools installer (.DMG file).

Step 11. Double-click the "Install Pro Tools" icon as shown below:

Step 12. Follow the onscreen installation prompts.

Step 13. You should now see the Pro Tools icon in your dock. Click the icon to launch Pro Tools.

(If you do not see the Pro Tools icon, check your Applications folder)

Step 14. Click Activate.

Step 15. Sign in with your iLok User ID (typically your email address) and password. This should match the iLok ID listed on your Products and Subscriptions page.

Then, check the "Remember Me" box and click Next.

Step 16. DO NOT open an iLok Cloud session. Check the box and click No.

Step 17. Select your Pro Tools license, then click Next.

Step 18. If you haven't already done so, please connect your iLok to your USB hub.

Step 19. Your iLok should now appear onscreen. Select it and click Next.

Step 20. Click Yes to register your iLok.

Step 21. Click Continue to launch Pro Tools.

Congratulations! Pro Tools has been successfully installed.

Plug-Ins  

In addition to Pro Tools, you will need to run the AIR Effects Bundle, AIR Instruments Bundle, and XPand II installers. Download these installers from one of the following...

OR:

  • Launch the Avid Application Manager > Sign in with your Avid account > Plug-ins > The installers are listed as First AIR Effects Bundle and First AIR Instruments Bundle, and XPand II.
